Beginning Pottery Classes
Pottery is one of the oldest human technologies and art-forms, and remains a major industry today. There are several methods for making ceramic pieces.
Beginning Wheel Throwing
A ball of clay is placed in the center of a turntable or 'wheel.' The wheel rotates rapidly while the solid ball of soft clay is pressed, squeezed, and pulled gently upwards and outwards into a hollow shape.

The Basics of Wheel Throwing This class is for beginners but will also serve as a refresher course. We will explore the basics of centering the clay and forming shapes such as a cylinder and continue to mugs and small serving bowls. No experience required. Clay, glaze and firings included.
(minimum 4 students, maximum 6 students)
Instructor: Steve Herndon Steve grew up in rural Ohio with an inborn love of nature and wildlife. These forces helped to form him into a master craftsman with a passion for restoring historic log buildings. His skills encompass a variety of art forms from cabinetry and furniture making to wood carving and pottery. He has an inborn talent for creating and design and the ability to methodically demonstrate his art.
